Smells from the kitchen
Monday, March 8th, 2010I think the first trimester ewwies are lifting. I know because my baking and blogging are coming back in full swing
So starting friday we made homemade donuts which we proofed and bakes off saturday morning. um YUMMY is all I have to say about that.
Today I am making a giant batch of homemade granola. new recipe. It includes an overnight soaking of the oats in buttah coconut oil and buttermilk. I’m trying out soaking my grains (oats, rice, quinoa, lentils and wheat flours) as some reading I’ve been doing says it makes them easier to digest. I alsoonly use dry beans and soak those overnight in water and apple cider vinegar as well. blah blah blah. Who cares. yummy granola is baking mmmm
tonight I am trying my hand at homemade yogurt. little scary but what is granola without some yummy yogurt
I’m still making all my bread (sandwich, baguettes, rolls) except for english muffins and pitas and tortillas. My newest addiction is an oatmeal bread. yum, especially since 3/4 of our bread goes to pb and J
I’ve started making 2 loaves at a time. I find doubling batches makes my life easier. you know…2 loaves of bread, enough donuts to freeze like 20 and still eat, um ALOT, and enough chocolate oatmeal cookies with chocolate chips (and shredded coconut) to freeze a few dozen dough balls for a rainy (or very sunny) spring day.
